This question comes from B.D. of Brenham, Texas. “How can you be so arrogant and narrow minded to think the Bible has all the answers?”
Thanks for the question B.D. Let me begin by recounting a sermon I once heard in California entitled “It’s In the Word”. The preacher in his sermon continued to remind us that anything you need you’ll find it in the Word.
Let me continue in this vein “It’s in there.” Considering your question- if you are asking what should I wear tomorrow; the Bible would instruct you to be appropriate and to wear something that would not detract from your purpose. If you are going to church, for instance, I Peter reminds us to dress modestly. Christians are instructed to be decent and orderly in all things and especially in our deportment (manner, behavior). God commands “Not to let your good be evil spoken of” Romans 14:16. Again, this speaks to motive and purpose, what is your goal? God gives us the right and ability to select colors, styles and it is acceptable to take cues from the fashion experts.
If your questions are, “who am I, why am I here, what is my purpose, why is there so much pain?” The Bible, God’s infallible Word is the true source, the stable source, the sustainable source. By faith we are convinced and persuaded that God is Who He says He is, the Maker of all things, the sustainer of all things. Just ask David the Psalms are replete (stuffed, full, supplied) with the attributes and majesty of Almighty God. So, to answer the questions of purpose- God, through Jeremiah says, “Before I formed you in the belly, I knew you, and before you were born I sanctified (set apart) you and I ordained you a prophet (seer, preacher) unto the nations”(Jer. 1:5 paraphrased). David, said that he was “fearfully and wonderfully made.” Psalm 139:14. He didn’t make that up God told Him so. God answers the question of pain, when he tells that every good and perfect gift comes from above, but this earth is under the oppression of the enemy who disguises himself as an angel of light, because Adam decided that God’s Word was not law. He should have been arrogant and narrow minded.
